Abstract
Purpose:This study aims to examine the change in burden among older spouses providing care and the factors influencing caregiving before and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods:The study utilized data collected by the Korean Longitudinal Study on Aging, administered by the Korea Employment Information Service (KEIS). A total of 420 older adults aged 65 years and older received care from their spouses. T-test, chi-squared analysis, ANOVA analysis were used for descriptive analysis, and multiple linear regression was conducted to examine factors associated on caregiving time using SPSS program.

Results:The results showed that more older community dwelling older adults who needs assistance are more dependent on the care provided by the older caregivers. It is notable that the proportion of older couples in community decreased while older couples living with children and also the number of household increased during the COVID-19 pandemic period. In addition, the caregiving time and burden were significantly associated with the number of activities of daily living of those who received care.

Conclusion:This study proposes strategies to provide the targeted support programs including employing artificial intelligence-based caregiving services to ease the burden on family caregivers for the older people in the community.
